This year spring’s days had gone only by seeing the fallen leaves through window. The winter of Europe is now in the middle, and the excitement of Christmas festival is almost gone from British’s soil this time. The world is still reeling from the innumerable death. The whole continent has been ravaged by the pandemic, Britain have lost its golden days and become chaotic. This time Christmas which is much calmer than before, usually not been noticed by the residents here.
London, the old city on the bank of the Thames, has never stopped. But this is the first time in UK that not only London even the whole Britain has been quiet due to COVID-19. The time for the arrangement of Christmas has passed quietly behind the eyes. That is normal during this epidemic; otherwise, the colour bridge of the night on the river Thames would have been captured by the lens of the World’s most famous and expensive camera, and the Buckingham Palace would have been repainted.
The Princess Street in Edinburgh, Scotland would been decorated gorgeously as every year and the old city would be crowded once again by the locals and foreigners. People lined up on both sides of the road waiting for the green signal, they would cross the tram line and go from one side to the other. But, there is only emptiness on Princess Street this year.
Salsa or magic show would have been stuck in the fair grounds of Princess Street for so long. In the cold, the smoke of coffee would rise again and again. From the beginning of November, London or Edinburgh usually used to involve in Christmas celebration, the organizers of UK used to spend millions of pounds and make the world amazed. As always, the United Kingdom was ready to compete with other European countries.
The heartfelt reunion of the Scottish British made the year even more memorable. But where is this? The emptiness of the desert has spread to the horizons of Europe. Everywhere in London or Edinburgh the excitement, joy everything is in darkness today. The colourful beauty of Christmas is fading day by day, there is only panic in the suburbs of Britain, no one is left out as England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales where there is not a speck of Christmas celebration today. All religious and cultural events in Britain have been shut down due to government’s announcement on restriction and even mega events Christmas.
Suddenly there is a break in Britain’s life. In the midst of so many advances in science, people have tried to live by holding on to non-science as if they were helpless in front of their eyes. Despite the cries of losing discomfort over and over again, the people of Britain are full of hope for the future, the celebration of another new Christmas, the belief that only once the darkness is gone, the light will shine again.
